Abstract

China represents multi-faceted opportunities and challenges for private equity firms that are considering investments in the world's fastest-growing economy. Well established as an ideal outsourcing opportunity with an eager, low-wage workforce, China also represents a growing market for consumer goods, with U.S. brands in high demand. On the other hand, China's regulatory and cultural environments are extremely complex, and there are literally hundreds of ways in which Western business people can find themselves mired in difficult situations. The secrets to success in China include careful research and planning, thorough evaluation of risk and reward, and expert guidance each step of the way.
