AB This article examines the funding of early stage life sciences ventures. We explore 10 early stage life sciences ventures for an in-depth examination of their experiences. Our findings suggest that the capitally intensive nature of starting life sciences firms makes investment capital paramount. While venture capital is important, we find that other funding sources can play a crucial role in funding early growth. Optimal financial strategies to develop financial resources in early stage life sciences ventures require analyzing the paths, positions, and processes related to obtaining capital that a firm has available.TOPICS: Private equity, portfolio construction, analysis of individual factors/risk premia, quantitative methods
